Ok, I haven't posted forever, but thought this was worth sharing.
Mr. Bell is a master communicator. And frankly he does share some truth. But he is WAY off on some really important things that are important to acknowledge. Most importantly probably, the idea that Jesus died in our place as a substitute...that whole justification doctrine. Anyhow, here's an interesting quote from him...
"Central to the Christian tradition for thousands of years have been disciplines of meditation, reflection, silence and breathing...to be fully connected with God and fully centered you would spend significant parts of your day in silence, breathing..."
I do in fact spend large portions of my day breathing (or the whole day). Wishing for silence sometimes. Even counting to ten while breathing at other times. Not really a discipline, just for survival on my part. But Mr. Bell would have us tap the 'wisdom of the ancients' by incorporating breathing exercises into our daily routine. And I will comply as soon as he can show me the verse or passage that teaches this principle as a way to grow closer to God. Yep, didn't think so.
He then goes on to talk about how keeping our breath steady and balanced helps us integrate the divine into the daily, just like the yoga masters teach. To this I reply...huh? Apparently there is something sacred about the act of breathing. Something divine. No sir, there is not. Breath is the gift of life, given from the divine-One, to the not-at-all divine ones. There is nothing divine about it, only about the One who gave it.
Silly, scary wisdom of man rather than God. Seriously!!
