Grateful

Last week at this time our little family was in between flights on the long journey home from Samoa. We had a great adventure there, made many wonderful memories, and were so blessed to be able to give so much, thanks in great part to our amazing family, church family and friends. I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined with us, and especially to the MOMS groups who gave so much and allowed us to bless these people.

Above: Mutalo, who received some of the household items to share with his large family. The body lotion was quite a hit, but after several days the women began complaining that theirs was being taken by the men in the household!
Below: The picture didn't turn out well, but this kind lady received some things as well.

Below: While we stayed with Nu's Mom and Dad, the local school was being renovated and this class of Grade 1-2 was meeting in their front house, which is usually reserved for family meetings and special events. We were happy to be able to give them a lot of the school supplies we had received...pencils, crayons and art supplies. The teacher was so grateful!

Above: This is Nu's parents' main home, where we stayed. On the steps is Lucia, his cousin.
Below: This is the teacher of the class pictured above, with her family. We were able to give them quite a few things as well. Teachers in Samoa are paid a very minimal wage, which is a small help but not enough to provide for a family.

Above: Kitchen area for food preparation...just the basics as you can see, so the things that were donated were a great help!
Below: Nu's cousin La'i who does a lot of the cooking on the family property. Such a sweet lady!

Below: Tada! The fridge! We fit it into our rented Hyundai Tucson all the way from the other island, and over the ferry, with the kids and I taking a taxi behind...Nu's parents were totally shocked to see it arrive, they had no idea. It was great. It will be a great help for them to be able to keep water cool, and refridgerate meats and leftovers so the flies don't get them. Thank you so much to everyone who donated money to this cause.

When we were trying to find a family in the village that most needed help, this is the one that came to our attention. They live in two very simple houses, with just the bare minimum, and the older woman and her husband are raising their children as well as their 3 grandchildren, who are in the picture. They received a lot of clothing, medicine, household items and other things. They were very grateful as I tried to explain in simple English that these gifts were not just from us, but from friends and church family in Canada, who just wanted to share the love of Jesus with them.

Above: Our one and only family picture...taken too late at night for some of us to smile (0:
Below: The whole gang living on the family 'compound' where we stayed.
