July Update

We've been busy! Busy with loads of summer fun. The highlights of this month have been many. My sister and her family were out visiting from Ontario, and we all had a blast together. Living so far apart, we are forced to squish a year's worth of fun into just under 2 weeks, and I think this time we actually accomplished it! We went on lots of daytrips, and spent the weekend away in Whistler, which was amazing. The three of us ladies enjoyed our annual tea at Serendipitea tea house, and I soaked up many of my sister's famous back massages. It was also fabulous to see our kids (6 in all) playing together so nicely and getting to know their cousins.

Mekaia learned some floor hockey skills at a daycamp as well this month. I think he did pretty well...although the only goal he made just happened to be in his own net. Still, he came away unscathed by the wildly waving sticks of 10 4-5 year old boys, and only had one penalty for "overly-aggressive play." Seriously, he listened to his teacher respectfully (when he wasn't staring off in the other direction) and hustled after the ball every time. He was even honored by being called "tough" afterwards in the parking lot by the best player of the bunch. That's my boy.

Lesina did a soccer daycamp the week after run by AIA. She was a trooper out in the hot sun day after day, and learned some beginner soccer skills. I was impressed by the things she came home to share with us...coaches that had given their testimony and memory verses. She enjoyed it a lot and she earned the "Perseverance Award."
Matalena doesn't have much to report in terms of summer activities yet, but her turn is coming as she is SUPER excited to start Pre-Ballet in the Fall...she has a persistent love for all things 'Ballerina'.

As for Nu, he's been working crazy hard, doing some overtime and often landscaping instead of shipping and receiving at the request of his boss, who's been preparing for his son's wedding at his newly built estate. It looks so gorgeous. He's also been playing some beach volleyball (of course) and he even played rugby for Kenya in the 7s tournament on the weekend. I bet you can guess my first question after that game...are you injured in any way? But he came through untouched. Thankfully (0:

Now you're probably all wondering whether I'm about ready to have this baby...and though you may be deceived by the enormous basketball I'm carrying out the front, I am actually still only 36 weeks, which means I have approximately 2-5 more weeks to sleep through the night. I have become quite uncomfortable, especially in the heat, so I imagine by the time labor comes, I will be good and ready for it. But for now, I would like to enjoy the last few weeks exploring the outdoors with the kids, making the new baby quilt, reading a few more books (in the last month I've read my first novels in years...I was on a non-fiction/non-reading kick for awhile) and enjoying the relative calm before the whirlwind of Fall begins. With new baby and new school routines (3 drives a day instead of 2) I am thinking that it will be good just to make it through these first few months. I know that it presents yet another opportunity for me to realize my own insufficiency and to lean on Jesus for what I need...even just to make it through the day intact, much less with joy and peace. Which is a gift in a way.
I've blabbered on long enough, guess that's what happens when I blog only once a month. Thanks for reading!

Nu's new wheels (he wishes)

3 musketeers (thanks for the musketeer training Julia)

It's scary that she has got the 'cute' face downpat...and she knows how to use it!

Summer fun in the backyard...woohoo slip and slide!

Great update... its good to capture the special moments of summer. I do hope you get rest in the next couple of weeks (I had too much trouble sleeping in the last 4 weeks). Can't wait to meet your little one.
