today is such a lovely, sunny day. we've been playing outside, doing a bit of gardening, and cleaning up the house for Bible study tonight. the ladybird was quite excited that her tomato plant has sprouted this morning, and i enjoyed going around and seeing all the new growth on my perennials. i guess i'm a bit of a geek, but it does make me happy (0:
yesterday we went to the library, and had a rather unfortunate mishap occur. my walmart umbrella stroller lost a set of wheels on the bumpy ride up the stairs (oops)... which made me even more peeved at the nimwits who designed a library with no wheelchair/stroller access in 1960-something... anyways, the kind clerk saved the day by taking my books outside for me, allowing me to carry my future heavy-weight champion of the world son and his busted stroller. the point of me telling you all of that is just that we found some great movies there which we are going to watch together over the weekend (i know this is going to further confirm my geekiness, and i just don't care): Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, with Shirley Temple! love it, of course our family has seen EVERY Shirley Temple movie ever made, and somehow it stuck with me. also, Dr. Doolittle, which i absolutely fell in love with when i read the book as a child, and i'm hoping the movie is just as good. last week we saw Mary Poppins and Lady and the Tramp. i'm really saddened that there's a whole generation of children growing up with video stores that don't rent videos like this anymore, they're all DVDs...what about the classics? they will be lost i fear.
the funniest thing happened at lunch today. the first documented case of sleep-eating that i've heard of. apparently one o'clock is the magic time for the moose's nap because he was eating his soup, bite after bite, even after there was nothing left, and his eyes were rolling around and his head was bobbing back and forth...i'm pretty sure his head would have ended up in the soup if i hadn't taken him to his bed when i did. i've never seen a person so close to sleeping (if not actually sleeping) while still doing something, except maybe Rhonda (0;

Oh that's too funny. Hey, we have a whole rubbermaid bin of the classics up in the attic on VHS. We don't have a VCR player so we can't watch them. Now I am craving a new VCR player so I can watch Bambi, the movie that disgusted Opa so much he walked out of the room when Bambi's mother got shot. To this day we quote that movie...somehow stuck with us that if someone is lying on the floor and won't get up, we say, "Bambi! You must get up!" (from the forest fire scene). Yes, we were all traumatized by the deer.
Some of the "classics" are being put onto dvd. I bought Sound of Music on dvd for my Mom for Christmas. I love getting movies from the library. They have all the good ones - and they're free! We just rented ET on dvd to watch this week.
i love that Bambi-ism!! And Opa, what a tender heart all walled in that tough-man exterior...sweet. we'd love to borrow some of your classics sometime, and you're welcome to come over and watch Bambi whenever you like. the vcr works after a few select bangs from Nu usually! just don't make me watch the murder scene.

the library is awesome for adult classics too...check out the fred astaire and ginger rodgers collection...although i can't see Nu enjoying the men singing and dancing....hmmm, mom would like them...maybe a girls night movie!! :) they are humorous and oh so clean!!
