We had such a good family time this morning at the bird refuge in the Matsqui flats....miles of quiet gravel paths and nature running wild (as well as children)...Lesina asked to go BIRD-WATCHING (!) yesterday and so we packed up her binoculars (great gift idea Dad by the way)and went this morning. I wasn't sure we'd see anything but we saw one heron or crane (I'm a real bird expert you can see) and two unidentified flying creatures with very unusual beaks that were HUGE! As well as tons of sparrows and smaller birds, dragonflies and butterflies. I have to remind myself to go here more often.
At top is the crane/heron and bottom, we bushwacked our way down to the pond to see if the floating objects were ducks, which indeed, they were.

so where is this bird place??? Looks like a good place to explore.
You have found a great place for both you and the kids. Maybe we can all go their sometime for more fun - like a science field trip.
