rant

Welcome to...an early morning rant.
Why early morning you ask? Well, I gave my daughter too much milk to drink last night and so,
she was awake at 5:40 to use the bathroom, also awakening her roomate. For some reason, this is the magic time...if they wake up anytime after 5:30, they just cannot get back to sleep.
Grrrr.....
So I'm reading the headlines over at watch.org and thinking, wow, we are quite possibly right smack in the middle of unfolding prophecy, and certainly in the middle of events who's implications we are far from understanding. Will we be ready for what's next? Headlines like:

Channel One television says new Russian bomb, nicknamed the "dad of all bombs" is four times more powerful than the U.S. "mother of all bombs." - Fox
Putin Dissolves Russian Government - AP
'IAF attacked missile batteries; Assad advisors pushing for retaliation' - Jerusalem Post
Report: Israel spots nuclear installations in Syria - Ynet
Fox: U.S. Officials Begin Crafting Iran Bombing Plan

Israel actually attacked a military target within Syria during that flyover last week, with the Syrian gov't now saying that there could be 'tragic consequences' and war in the region seeming more and more likely...and we know that includes more than just Syria and Israel, as Syria has some serious bodyguards in Iran, Russia, Hamas, Hizbollah and even support from China and N. Korea. All this points to that alliance prophecied thousands of years ago in the major prophets...and it has implications for other prophecies such as the destruction of Damascus. I'm no expert, in fact I know just enough to know that I don't know much! But also enough to recognize the indisputable connections to what the Bible says will happen. There are lots of good links to study of Bible prophecy, in particular I would probably recommend Jacob Prasch, David Hocking, Joel Rosenberg and there are quite a few good sermons related on the jesusisreality link from my site.

Now, people get all nervous about this kind of stuff, but for me it's really intriguing and it impassions my faith and urgency to share the Good News. Only God knows what His timing will be in all of these end-times things, and whether we are nearing the end or not, only He knows...I will not speculate on that, but I do know for sure that all that is prophecied in the Old Testament concerning the end will be fulfilled, just like all the prophecies regarding the Messiah's first coming were literally and specifically fulfilled. I also know for sure that God is in control of this whole crazy spinning mess and He is working to carry out his prophetic timetable, in which we look forward to our BLESSED HOPE, the appearing of Jesus Himself!
These headlines and events which are happening so far away can seem just like a distant mumbling here, easy enough to ignore or not be aware of...particularly if you live a busy life (like most) and rely on the local TV news for information. It is easy to not be aware of anything much going on in the rest of the world, much less in one small corner of the Middle East. But for those living a little closer, these rumblings must seem quite loud, urgent and I very much doubt they can be ignored for long. I can't imagine a theology like 'Kingdom Now' as it is called would thrive for long so close to the rumblings...how plausible does it seem (much less Biblical) that we would be able to set up a type of 'utopian' world-wide God-fearing Kingdom in the here and now, that Christ can take over to rule when He returns...to those living close to the rumblings and roarings in the Middle East, this may be more clear!

And meanwhile, life goes on...around here we're waiting for baby (11 days left), and I'm enjoying teaching Lesina 'pre-school at home' as well as watching her excitement to start ballet classes. We're believing that life is a gift, to be enjoyed, while still keeping one eye on the clock and recognizing that we don't know the times that God has appointed for us or the world. And what makes us think it won't be our generation that will see His coming? It'll be a generation just like us, who are just going about the daily stuff of life, and it is those who are watching and waiting who will be prepared when He does come.
So let's watch and wait together and not forget 'our mission, should we choose to accept it!'

Sarah, you amazing girl. I could not have said it better!

Very true...we CAN recognize the season of His return...and it is looking closer every day.

Sue, here's a good one:

http://www.olivetreeviews.org

It’s got everything - current healines, articles, e-updates, newsletters, news watch (with a prophecy watch section and an Israel section), great links, radio, (I find the radio archives of interviews particularly helpful). Jan Markell is an incredibly wise and godly woman. One of my daily fav balanced sites, not only for prophecy but also today's church issues.

Thanks for the recommendation auntie, I forgot about that one...and Sue, I totally do have mommy-preggo-mush brain, maybe it just affects some areas more than others. For example I am just now remembering the load of laundry I put into the washer, oh, 4 hours ago. I guess I just don't feel impassioned about laundry? (that's actually not bad compared to how long it has waited in the past)

Sarah, you're so right. A great summary with some new info for me at least. The signs are all around us. (2 more big earthquakes in Indonesia this week)
As the saying goes: "Keep looking up!" Still, we do need to carry on doing the work here and plan as if we'll be here for some time yet. But we do have that sure hope and expectation that the Lord will intervene and for we who know Him it will be a great day.
