Hailstorm

Do I have good timing or what?
I just finished planting a beautiful fragile clematis vine and some dainty little violas.
20 minutes later the rainstorm began. Then hail. Of course. Maybe it'll snow tonight too. Or freeze. yeah, that would be helpful to my little baby plants that are trying to survive!

Regarding the last post, yes, I drowned the unforunate insect that decided on my shower for his home. The interesting thing about me is that I can't bring myself to squish a bug. Now before you jump to conclusions about me being too tender-hearted to do so, believe me, it's more for my sake than for theirs! I just can't handle being so close to bug guts. So there are two options left for me: Drown the unfortunate creature, or carefully coax it onto a leaf or tissue so that it can be thrown back outside where it belongs. I can't even bring myself to use those bug-zappers. Sad but true. I go to a lot of work to maintain this anti-bug-squishing policy!
I've found showers are some of the favorite places for bugs to settle. Must be all the moisture or something. I know that's where all the cockroaches could be found while I was in Samoa. Yep. Big, ugly, creepy, stinky cockroaches. Now, I've read a few posts lately from bug-haters. And I had one cut my hair the other day, who actually moved out of her house for several days after killing a really really big spider in her bathroom. I can sympathise with you. But I have not been able to hold onto my bug-avoiding ways. You see, my husband refuses to protect me from them. Even though this is CLEARLY part of his mandate as a husband...to protect beloved wife from ugly, nasty, creepy insects....he wants no part of it. His reason? He doesn't want me to be afraid of them. He grew up in quite a different environment, not nearly as sterile and separate from nature as ours, and he thinks bugs are part of life. Well, I've learned to live with this, but as you can see, I have my own ways of dealing. If I get all squeamish and ask him to kill a spider for me, he usually tells me to kill it myself, and then gets annoyed that I gently let it crawl onto a kleenex and toss it out the door! Ah, yes, opposites attract, right?

you will have to let me know how your plants make out. I have a clematis that is wrapping around a tree that I would like to move.
We are having a problem with fruit flies, 8 legged things.. and more...

Sarah, I can't seem to post under my nick (justus) please let me know if there is a problem.

hahahaha. good bug talk. i'm not a fan of the "squishing" noise and feeling when killing a bug. i had to squash a beetle-like bug in the house yesterday, and it made a tremendous cracking noise as it crumpled to our tile floor. AWEFUL! i hate that sound, i hate the way it feels. ug.

on a side note: Robyn, we had a fruit fly infestation in our basement: this worked wonders....red wine, in small saucers, place plastic wrap over top of the saucer, and poke one or two needle sized holes in the top.

soon they will find it, go in, and NEVER COME OUT! they are stupid insects, and they don't realize that it isn't a wine tasting party inside...instead it is their final farewell party.
