hmmmmm

Judging by the minimal results of the last post (thank you Sue), there are two possibilities:
One, nobody reads my blog anymore, as I must have succeeded in boring them to death. Ouch.
Or, two, nobody cooks healthy meals.
For the sake of my self-esteem, I'll go with the second one.

Nothing really big to blog about today, just a congratulations to my dear friend Naomi (and Dustin) on the birth of their son, Samuel. A perfect name, and such a cute little bundle. Should be just about big enough to join us on our next Samoa trip in 2 years!

And a congratulations to my ladybird for being totally potty-trained-nights, naps, everything! Today was the first Sunday I've risked taking her to church sans-diaper, and she remembered to tell her teacher as I hoped she would! We're so proud.

Yesterday we enjoyed a snowy family walk around Mill Lake which was lots of fun. We even saw some crazy people out walking on the ice. And we ran into a few friends as it is impossible not to do at Mill Lake. Ahhh, small town life.

Funny quotation of the day yesterday:
Nu said (with one of those 'light-bulb-just-went-on' looks on his face)
"I know why God didn't put more animals on the island of Samoa. If we had deer and all the wildlife that you have here in Canada we would have eaten them all by now and they'd be extinct!" Haha! You'd have to know Nu's meat-loving ways I guess. Suffice to say that God had good reason for limiting Samoa's wildlife to wild boar only!

On the more serious side, this morning's church service was great. As we were singing "at your feet I fall, in my brokenness complete" I was reminded how unbroken I like to look, even when the truth is, we all have broken parts of our lives, sadness, grief, unresolved things, you know...the 'already and the not yet' of life. God's Kingdom here in our lives, and the Kingdom to come. It's made whole but it's still broken, and it's in process. It's already and it's not yet. So I know that feeling inside where I like to feel all put-together, buttoned-up, tidy and neat (don't worry, I'm quite aware that I don't look it a good deal of the time) is wrong. If the tears well up in my eyes why am I afraid to let them spill down? I don't want to look like the mess that I sometimes am! Our churches would be a lot less poser-ish if we would stop thinking about what others are thinking about us all the time! Easy to say...hard to do.

It's not that we don't eat healthy, and I do read your blog. I just am so not into recipes and cooking that I just crack open a recipe book if I absolutely have to. I cook by ear, nose, and eye.

As for the potty training, congratulations!

As for Nu's comment...quite typical.

As for the serious side, and always looking together...I totally relate. I have this wall around me that's about 6 inches thick and it's invisible, but it makes everything look perfect and shiny. Have you seen it?

I mean, about Nu, that's I expect him to think that way, seeing his eating habits and all...you know what I mean.

You have a great blog Sarah. I don't always comment because I usually see you before you'd see my comment! Great pictures. In regards to brokenness, we can get a taste of David's in the Psalms as he pours his heart out there. Transparency may be a good synonym for the kind of brokenness you're talking about. It helps to have a good Christian friend or prayer partner to keep oneself on target. Cheerio for now.

good words sis.
i just talked to you for like an hour. so..um...yeah, i'll get you that recipe, horray for potty training success, and so much more! :)
Totally with ya about the wall around us and the tidiness-obsession. i find it so helpful to have at least one friend that has no NO walls, then it helps me to release mine little by little. kinda like what dad said about the prayer partner.
yup. loves. bye
um. love you. and talk again soon.

hello! I still read, but fall into a "non-commenter type" sometimes. Keep on girl. As far as recipes go, I lack in that area too.

thanks everyone (0: I do still have readers, what a relief! I understand, I'm more of a blog-reader than commenter too. Just good to know you're all still out there!!

I am a little behind and just sat down with my recipe book to type this our for you. I'm not sure about what your defnition of healthy is. It's not terribly unhealthy and my family likes it so here you go!
Elise's Curry Chicken

Put in a casserole dish:
2-4 chicken breasts, cooked and cut up
1-2 heads broccoli

Mix together:
1/2 cup mayo
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 tsp curry
1 tsp lemon juice

Pour sauce over chicken & broccoli. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 375 for 30-35 minutes.

I serve it with brown rice and a salad.

I have enjoyed the recipe books by Greta and Janet Podleski called "Looneyspoons," "Crazy Plates," and "Eat Shrink and Be Merry." They have some really good healthy recipes in them, and they're also just fun to read! I don't own any of the books but they have them at the public library and I have signed them out before. Also, if you get reader's digest, they have a section in it where they put a few of their recipes.

I hope that helps!
Christa

i love those books too!! :)

sarah and i were just talking about them, and the possiblilty of getting them from the library! crazy.

anyway, here is my sort of healthy recipe, also a hit around here:

CHICKEN WREATH
2 pkgs pilsbury cressent rolls.(the not healthy part...sorry, sooo good)
2cups coarsely chopped cooked chicken(cooked in whatever herbs and spices you like)
1.5 cups coarselychopped broccoli
1 cup any cheese you like
1/2 cup diced red pepper
1/3 cup mayo (whatever fat content you like) :)
1-2 garlic cloves, pressed
1 egg white lightly beaten
1/4 cup slivered almonds (opt)
------------------------------
preheat oven 375*
combine all Except the crescent rolls, egg, almonds! :) mix well.

lay out the crescent rolls to look like a sunflower**...work with me here, shape the filling into a wreath, overlap with the dough, brush with egg, sprinkle with almonds or some cheese (opt). bake 25-30 min.
------------------------
**call me and i will further explain! haha. i really don't want to write an essay for your comments! :)

I guess I was in a hurry when I was typing out my recipe because I realized after that I omitted a few things. I didn't mention that you should cut up the broccoli into bite size pieces but I guess you could probably figure that out! Also, the 1 tsp curry is curry powder, not the paste. I am not a big curry fan but I like this dish because it's not very strong on the curry flavour. Of course, if you like curry, you could add more and make it stronger. We just had this for dinner tonight, yummy!
Blessings,
Christa
